Cloutier Has Sprained Ankle

  • Goaltender Dan Cloutier has a sprained right ankle and will miss the rest of the Vancouver Canucks first-round playoff series with the Calgary Flames. Coach Marc Crawford said Wednesday Cloutier has been fitted with a walking boot. Cloutier was hurt late in the first period of Vancouver's 2-1 win Sunday night. He was replaced by backup Johan Hedberg.
    Hedberg was in goal in the Canucks 4-0 loss to Calgary Tuesday night which tied the best-of-seven series 2-2. Game 5 will be played Thursday in Vancouver.
  • The Orlando Magic are willing to trade Tracy McGrady in the off-season unless the NBA's scoring champion tells them he wants to stick around after next year. McGrady, who signed a seven-year, $93 million US contract that runs through 2006-07 season, can opt out of the deal following the 2004-05 season.
  • The Detroit Tigers on Wednesday recalled veteran pitcher Ugueth Urbina from Class A Lakeland. Urbina agreed to terms on a one-year contract with Detroit in the offseason. He also earned a World Series ring with the Florida Marlins last season. In the 2003 regular season, Urbina was 3-4 with a 2.81 ERA and 32 saves with Texas and Florida.
  • Serena Williams withdrew from the U.S. team's first-round Fed Cup match at Slovenia. The U.S. Tennis Association on Wednesday could not say why she pulled out, and a call to her publicist was not immediately returned.
  • The head of Turkey's motorsport federation says there will be no tobacco advertising allowed for the first ever Turkish Grand Prix in 2005.
