Kelowna boxers win medals at provincial championships

Kelowna boxers win big

Madison Erhardt

A group of athletes from Kelowna's Boxing Club won big over the weekend at the provincials championships in Vancouver.

The Kelowna Boxing Club sent four athletes: Nathan Weber, Aubtin Sharifpour, Sarah Habib and Logan Clouthier along with head coach David Habib.

"All four of our athletes brought home medals. Nate, Aubtin and Logan all got gold and Sarah got silver. Logan also won best boxer of the tournament and is the first amateur to land a behind the back punch on his opponent in the finals," said Habib.

A total of 160 fighters took part in the event.

Habib says Clouthier has punched his ticket to the national team with his win.

"He is just so talented. He is so far above any of the athletes in the sport right now."

Habib says the Kelowna Boxing Club is more than just a gym.

"We use boxing as a vehicle to work with troubled teens and kids from single-parent families that are looking for support. It has been an amazing stronghold in the community," Habib added.
