There's a logjam at the top midway through the GolfBC Championship

Five share GolfBC lead

It's crowded at the top after 36 holes of the GolfBC Championship.

No less than five golfers find themselves with a share of the lead at the midway point of the Mackenzie tour - PGA Tour Canada stop at Gallagher's Canyon Golf and Country Club.

First round leader Etienne Brault of Montreal rebounded from a tough stretch of holes at the start of the back nine with birdies on 17 and 18 to join those atop the leaderboard.

Brault, who entered the day up by one, extended the lead with consecutive birdies on six, seven, eight and nine. But, a double bogey on 10 and a bogey on 12 dropped him out of the lead for the first time since early in the opening round.

But, back-to-back birdies to end his round sent Brault back into a share of the lead at eight under 134

Canadians Sang Lee, Brendan Leonard and 21-year-old North Vancouver native Callum Davison and Yi Cao of Calgary are also at eight under.

Davison had the best round of the day among the leaders, carding a five-under 66, which included six birdies, an eagle and three bogeys.

He birdied 16 and 18 to gain a share of the lead.

Lee had four birdies and a bogey, also with birdies on 16 and 18 for a second round three-under 58.

Leonard shot 31 on the front side en route to a four-under 67.

His front nine included six birdies and a bogey. Ironically he was unable to capitalize on the two reachable par five's on the front side.

Cao rolled in three birdies and an eagle en route to a four-under 32 on the front side and an 18 hole total of three-under 68.

Twenty-three year old Noah Steele of Kingston, Ont. fired the best round of day two, a six-under 65. His round included seven birdies and a bogey.

Steele, at three-under, is the leading amateur in the field.

Kelowna teen Cooper Humphreys backed up his opening round 69 with a second round one-over 72.

The 16-year-old Humphreys is in a four-way tie for 28th at one-under 141.

Seventeen-year-old Victoria native Jeevan Sihota is also one-under after 36 holes.

Sixty one golfers will play on after surviving the cut, set at plus four.

The third round tees off at 7:30 Friday morning.
