KSS Owls crowned BC girls 4A volleyball champions

KSS girls BC 4A champs

The KSS Owls rallied back from a 10-point deficit in the first set to win the 4A Girls BC Secondary School Volleyball Provincial Championships over the weekend.

The Owls defeated the Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers in the 3-0 victory at the Langley Events Centre.

The win was the second consecutive provincial title for the Owls.

Madelyn Hettinga was named tournament MVP.

Meanwhile, in 3A boys competition, the KSS boys fell to the Earl Marriott Mariners in the championship match.

The win secured a three-year run for the Mariners.

The Mariners beats the Owls 3-1.

Kelowna was looking for its first senior boys provincial title in 66 years, and came out firing in the first set, winning 25-19 as they looked to end their lengthy drought.

The Mariners were ruthlessly efficient over the match’s final three sets, winning 25-14, 25-11 and 25-14.

In the bronze medal game, the Claremont Spartans defeated the Okanagan Mission Huskies.

OKM’s Sean McIntyre was named Outstanding Libero. Oak Bay took the Most Sportsmanlike Team Award.

Quinn Pitcher (Okanagan Mission), Takoda McMullin (Earl Marriott), Tyson Embree (Kelowna), Ethan Boag (Claremont), Crash Wergeland (Claremont) and Braden White (Kelowna) were the First Team All-Stars.

The Second Team All-Stars were Jesse Lee (Riverside), Seth Baker (Oak Bay), Colby Soolsma (Argyle), Lucas Yang (Eric Hamber), Josh Quiring (Earl Marriott) and Kael Murphy (Okanagan Mission).
