The UBCO men’s basketball program has hired Clayton Pottinger as its new head coach.
Pottinger, who comes to Kelowna after spending the last eight years at Red Deer College, will officially take the reins on May 15 but is already in transition mode and will attend UBCO’s annual athletic scholarship breakfast next Friday. Pottinger replaces Ken Olynyk, who served as the team’s interim head coach this past season.
“We wouldn't have attracted such a deep and incredible pool of candidates for this position without having benefited from the coaching leadership of Ken Olynyk and Thom Gillespie over the past season," UBCO athletic director Tom Huisman said in a press release. “The job they did for us in this interim year was outstanding and demonstrated the potential of what we have here at UBCO, and contributed immensely to catching the eye and interest of so many high calibre coaches.”
