KCS wins basketball title

The Kelowna Christian School Knights captured the provincial 1A boys high school basketball title Saturday in Langley.

The Knights jumped out to a 25-10 first quarter lead, extended that to 51-24 at the half, and cruised to an 81-45 victory over Credo Christian in the championship game.

KCS came into the game ranked second in the province, while Credo Christian was ranked fourth.

Tournament MVP Colin Christophe led a balanced attack with 23 points as four members of the Knights finished in double digits.

Indy Hallet, who was named to the tournament's first all-star team, added 17 points. Josh Flood was named to the second all-star squad.

In the 4A championship, the Kelowna Secondary School Owls squandered a 15 points halftime lead, falling to Lord Tweedsmuir 91-86 in the championship game.

Parker Johnstone, who led the Owls throughout the tournament, and teammate Hunter Simson, were both named to the tournament first all-star team. Simson was also named the tournament's top defensive player, while the Owls were named most inspirational team.

The Owls, who were up and down much of the season, came into the week seeded seventh. The knocked off number three seed Terry Fox to get to the final.

In the 2A final, top ranked Charles Hays dumped George Elliot 78-51 in the final.

Nic Lafontaine was named to the tournament's first all-star team.

And, in the 3A final, North Delta edged the Vernon Secondary School Panthers 46-44 in a tight, defensive struggle.

The Panthers led by three at the break but trailed by two heading into the final quarter. They were unable to complete the comeback.

Isaiah Ondrik had 13 points, seven rebounds and seven assists in the game for Vernon. Kevin Morgan added 12 points and 18 boards.

Both were named to the first all-star team.
