- The two standout net minders, Tampa Bay's Nikolai Khabibulin and Calgary's Miikka Kiprusoff, will go toe-to-toe in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup finals at the St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa Bay.
- Miikka Kiprusoff, Ville Nieminen and Toni Lydman of the Calgary Flames were among 25 players named to Finland's team for the World Cup of Hockey on Tuesday. Finland will compete in a European pool with the Czech Republic, Germany and Sweden to open the Aug. 30-Sept. 14 tournament. Canada, the United States, Russia and Slovakia will play in the North American pool. The final is scheduled for Toronto on Sept. 14.
- Last season, Kelvin Anderson followed head coach Wally Buono from Calgary to B.C. and recorded his eighth consecutive 1,000-yard season. This season, he's apparently calling it quits according to a Vancouver radio station.
- Ron Artest of the Indiana Pacers was fined $10,000 by the NBA on Tuesday for making an obscene gesture during Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals against Detroit.
- Toronto Raptors star Vince Carter will hold his annual charity all-star game July 30 at Air Canada Centre. It's the fourth year for the game, which has raised more than $500,000 since its inception. Proceeds from this year's game will benefit the Starlight Children's Foundation.
- The British Grand Prix will be held at Silverstone for at least the next two years, according to owners of the race track.
