Two teams from Okanagan Firestorm Cheerleading climbed to the top of the podium at an event in Richmond over the weekend.
Youth Firestorm, a semi-competitive team, took home top honours in the prep division beating out four other teams while Youth Heat beat out seven other teams in its division.
Youth Heat beat the second place team by just .10 points. The same squad finished fourth at an event in Abbotsford two weeks ago.
The teams are made up of athletes 8 to 11 years old, many of whom are in cheer for the first year.
A total of 95 athletes from Okanagan Firestorm Cheerleading took part in the event at the Richmond Olympic Oval. About 1,600 athletes from around the province were competing.
Three other teams also placed in the medals in their respective divisions.
Mini Flames (6-8 years) finished third of 10, Youth 2 Spitfire (9-11 years) finished fourth of eight in one of the closest divisions of the day and Senior Inferno (14-18 years) finished second.
