One dead in crash on Highway 1 near Chase, police say

One dead in Hwy 1 crash

UPDATE: 9:56 p.m.

Highway 1 east of Chase has reopened after an earlier crash, according to DriveBC.

The two-vehicle crash involved a semi truck and an SUV, and resulted in the death of one person, according to the BC Highway Patrol.

Emergency crews were called to the crash at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.


UPDATE: 8:22 p.m.

One person has died as the result of a crash that happened along the Trans-Canada Highway east of Chase on Tuesday afternoon, according to police.

Const. James Ward of the BC Highway Patrol said emergency crews were first notified about the incident, which happened along the highway near Shuswap Avenue, at about 2:30 p.m.

“There were two vehicles [involved], one was a semi truck, one was an SUV. There was one fatality,” Ward said, adding he believes the person who died had been travelling in the SUV.

Ward said he had received limited details about the incident, and couldn’t yet confirm which direction the vehicles were travelling, and if there were any contributing factors, such as road conditions, that could have led to the crash.

Highway 1 remains closed in both directions as of 8 p.m. on Tuesday, according to DriveBC.

The crash happened just east of Shuswap Avenue on Tuesday afternoon.

Highway 1 near Chase is down to single lane alternating traffic after an earlier crash, according to DriveBC.

DriveBC said the vehicle incident happened on Tuesday afternoon near Shuswap Avenue, just east of Chase.

Drivers are advised to expect delays and watch for traffic control in the area.
