ORIGINAL: 6:45 a.m.

Highway 97A south of Sicamous has been closed through the night after rocks fell across the road just before midnight.

The highway remains closed in both directions Saturday morning, as crews assess the scene.

The rock slide occurred between Davidson Dr and the Mara Lake Rest Area, about five kilometres south of Sicamous.

DriveBC does not have an estimate of when the highway may reopen. Motorists can detour through Salmon Arm to avoid the closure.

The closure comes after three weeks of heavy rains across the southwest of the province resulted in slides that have closed a number of highways. A landslide on Highway 99 north of Pemberton last month killed four people, and one person believed to be involved remains missing.

It's not clear if anyone was involved in Friday night's rock slide south of Sicamous.
