RCMP deal with 27 reports from 1 p.m. on NYE to 1 p.m. on New Year's Day

Thief strikes twice on Jan. 1

The Salmon Arm RCMP dealt with anything from assaults and various disturbances to a notable break and enter where the residents were sleeping in the home to kick off the new year. 

On Jan. 1, at around 3:15 a.m., a homeowner on 4th Ave. SE was awoken by an unknown person he heard and saw leaving his residence. 

"Investigators were able to follow footprints and located a male matching the description of the suspect in the area," says Salmon Arm RCMP Staff Sgt. Scott West. "The male was arrested and held in police custody as the investigation continued."

The Salmon Arm resident, will face charges of break and enter and possession of the stolen property in court. 

The homeowner is expected to get back the stolen property that was recovered.

"As a result of this investigation, the same male was connected to another residential break and enter which was not discovered until 10 a.m. on the same day."

This incident involved stolen keys and tools from a vehicle inside a home on 21st Street SE. The police investigation into both of these matters continues.

Police attended to 27 complaints from 1 p.m. on Dec. 31 to 1 p.m. on Jan. 1.
