Motorcycle crash claims life

RCMP are asking anyone who may have information related to a deadly motorcycle accident to call the police.

Police say the fatal crash happened Sunday morning around 11:30, on Highway 1 near the Last Spike historical site in Craigellachie, east of Sicamous.

The two-vehicle crash involved the motorcycle and an F350 truck. Police say the westbound truck allegedly struck the motorcycle in the westbound lane of the highway.

"Members of the Eagle Valley Rescue Society assisted in freeing the trapped motorcyclist. The driver of the truck remained on scene and provided first aid to the injured man prior to the arrival of an ambulance," stated RCMP.

The motorcyclist was transported to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The 37-year-old male victim was a resident of Lloydminster, Alta. The driver of the truck was not injured.

Weather at the time of the collision was poor with heavy rain and poor visibility with heavy cloud cover.

The highway was closed for 7 hours.

Police are interested in speaking with any motorists who may have witnessed a motorcycle, either stationary or travelling in the area of the Last spike, near 11:00 p.m. on July 1. Anyone who has any information is asked to contact the Sicamous RCMP at 250-836-2878.

The investigation into the cause of the collision continues.
