RCMP and SAR find suspect

Sicamous RCMP and Shuswap Search and Rescue teamed up to find an alleged assault suspect and his daughter.

Last Friday night Sicamous RCMP responded to a report of an assault between two friends at a Cambie Solsqua Road home.

Police say a 60-year-old Sicamous man had allegedly been assaulted in his home by his 52-year-old friend.

Police attended and determined the injured victim had allegedly been struck several times by the suspect.

Police learned that the suspect, who had been drinking, had fled with his 4-year-old daughter into a rural area.

"Police contacted Shuswap Search and Rescue to assist them in locating the child and her father as they were concerned for the well-being of the child and it was believed the suspect was actively evading police," stated RCMP.

After a night in the bush,  members of the Shuswap Search and Rescue team located the suspect with his daughter in a wooded area around At 5:00 a.m.

"The suspect was reluctant to release the child to police or Search and Rescue members. The man eventually allowed Search and Rescue members to take his daughter to a family member for the night. The child was not injured as a result of the incident."

The 52-year-old man, who initially resisted arrest, was taken into custody without incident. He was later released on a promise to appear in Salmon Arm Provincial Court on August 14.

Police continue to investigate the matter.
