Threats lead to arrest

Salmon Arm police are now investigating after arresting a young man, who is under 18 years old, on Thursday who allegedly made threatening posts on social media.

The RCMP and both the school districts in Kelowna and Salmon Arm worked together to identify the person who made the threats.

The RCMP located the man, who is a student at Salmon Arm Secondary and arrested him this morning as he got off the bus.

No weapons were located when the suspect was taken into custody.

At this time there is no further known threat to student safety in Salmon Arm as a result of the social media threats.

Police remind the public that should you come across information or threats online to contact your local police immediately so it can be assessed and acted upon if necessary.

A young man was arrested in Salmon Arm on Thursday after posts made online. 

The Salmon Arm Secondary school student allegedly made posts to his Twitter account graphically describing the ways in which he wants to harm other classmates.

The young man did not reveal any specific names of the students he was allegedly planning to harm.

The high school student did make reference in a Twitter post to the Columbine High School massacre which occurred in 1999 in the United States.

RCMP have not yet released any information on the incident

One young man has been arrested following threatening posts he made on his Twitter account.

The Sullivan Campus, Salmon Arm Secondary School student remains in custody at this time.

On Thursday morning, the school was informed by Salmon Arm RCMP there were threatening social media posts made by a student.

The police and school staff found the student and the young man was arrested. No weapons were found at the time of his arrest.

The incident is being taken very seriously and the school district safety procedures and protocols are being followed.

"The safety of our students is always our top priority. The school district is committed to providing a safe learning environment for our students."
