Fatal train collision

UPDATE 2 p.m.

RCMP have provided more information on the man struck and killed by a train near Chase Friday.

While they are not releasing the name, police have said the victim is a 59-year-old man from the Lee Creek area, northeast of Chase.


A man was killed in a collision with a freight train Friday evening near Chase.

Police learned of the tragedy about 4:40 p.m.

The unknown male was walking on the tracks about five kilometres west of the Shuswap community when he was struck by the eastbound train.

RCMP members performed CPR on the man until an air ambulance arrived and paramedics declared the victim deceased.

Chase RCMP and CP Police Service are investigating the incident and are asking for the public's help in identifying the victim, as the man was carrying no identification.

He is described as a Caucasian male, 50-60 yrs of age, with a slim build, short, grey hair, a short moustache, and blue eyes.

He was wearing blue shorts, a yellow T-shirt, black, zip-up fleece jacket, and sandals.

The man was last seen about 2:15 p.m., near the intersection of Shuswap Avenue and the Trans-Canada Highway in Chase.
