Stolen truck slips past police

RCMP in Salmon Arm are asking for the public to be on the lookout for a stolen black Ford F150 pick-up truck.

Police spotted the stolen vehicle yesterday on the Trans Canada Highway near Canoe and attempted to make a stop, but the driver fled.

Police said the driver of the stolen vehicle was travelling at a high rate of speed, passing vehicles on the right as it went west on the highway.

"The officer did not pursue the vehicle and additional officers were called in to assist in locating the vehicle," stated Staff Sgt. Scott West. "The response included utilizing the RCMP helicopter which was in the area at the time. The local Highway patrol unit and Sicamous RCMP members also assisted in looking for the vehicle."

Unfortunately, the driver and stolen vehicle were able to slip past police and has not been located.

The vehicle is described as a black, 1998 F150, four-wheel drive. At the time it was last sighted by police the truck did not have licence plates on.

The vehicle had been stolen from the 3000 block of Sunnybrae Canoe Point Road earlier in the day.
