Kevin Hill goes for gold

Vernon's Kevin Hill says he is feeling "great" and is ready to race after an "awesome day of training" on the 2018 Winter Olympics snowboardcross course yesterday.

"I'm feeling fast and ready to take home a medal," Hill said.

Qualifiers start at 6 p.m. Pacific time and Hill will have a posse of fans, friends and family cheering him on all under one roof, at Wings restaurant in Vernon.

Watching your child compete at the Olympic's is surreal, says Arleigh Hill, Kevin's mother.

"I always remember when he was younger and would ask if I ever thought he could be a professional athlete," said Arleigh Hill. "I always said 'With God all things are possible, pursue your dreams and focus on what you want'."

For Hill, competing at the Olympics is a dream come true and after falling short of the podium at the 2014 Sochi Olympics, he feels this is his shot at redemption.

Raised in Vernon, Hill is a podium hopeful for Canada and an Okanagan rockstar on snow.

"It's exciting, it's awesome, I'm just speechless but more than anything I am thankful," Arleigh Hill said.

The public is welcome to attend Hill's viewing party tonight at WINGS, to cheer him on while he attempts to bring Canada home a medal.
