A survey suggests the state of your workspace may offer insight into your income, gender, age and educational level.
Only 11 per cent of people with incomes over $75,000 US annually described themselves as "neat freaks" in a survey of workers. Sixty-six per cent of respondents earning less than $35,000 claimed that description.
And 16 per cent of college graduates claimed to have orderly desks, while among workers with only high-school education, 29 per cent said they are tidy.
Fifty-six per cent of women said they keep their space organized, versus 42 per cent of men. And nearly twice as many women as men regard themselves as "neat freaks."
"A clean and streamlined workspace makes a good impression and gives off the aura of being in control," says Neil Lebovits, president of Ajilon Office.
"But some people work best in a controlled-clutter environment."
