Poll: Time Off Work?

The workplace tug-of-war between time and money has raged for years. An employee survey suggests money may be starting to lose ground.

Nearly 40 per cent of 4,600 full-time workers surveyed by Salary.com said they would rather have more time off work than a $5,000 US annual pay hike.

That was a jump of almost 20 percentage points from three years ago when the software company asked the same question.

Salary.com said the finding points to a significant shift in employee thinking.

"Workers are saying they need a break from the stresses caused by increasing hours, reduced staff and the push for more productivity," says Tim Driver, a senior vice-president of Salary.com.
