A major new study suggests marijuana use in Canada has doubled over the last decade.
The Canadian Addiction Survey reports that 14 per cent of respondents used cannabis in the last year, up from 7.4 per cent in 1994.
Overall, 45 per cent of respondents said they had used pot at least once in their lifetime. That rose to 70 per cent for those aged 18 to 24.
Males were more likely than females to have used the drug, and young people had a higher rate of use than older Canadians.
The survey also suggests usage increases with education, rising to 52 per cent for those with post-secondary education from 35 per cent among high school dropouts.
Those with higher incomes are also more likely to use cannabis.
