The Federal and Provincial governments have announced a national plan to ensure an adequate flu vaccine supply for people at highest risk.”
Immunization efforts will focus on adults and children with chronic heart and lung disease, the elderly, children and teens on long-term aspirin therapy, residents and staff of long-term care facilities, infants and toddlers, household contacts of the immune compromised and infants younger than six months and women in their third trimester of pregnancy.
This year’s added publicity, due the shortage in the US, combined with expanding the eligibility criteria, has increased the number of people coming in for their vaccinations.
Officials are asking other healthier groups to hold off until the demand can be more fully determined.
