Three Fifths Satisfied

With the new school year just starting, about 60 per cent of Canadians surveyed in a recent poll expressed satisfaction with the education system in their province.

The Leger Marketing poll found that 58 per cent of respondents were satisfied, compared with 36 per cent who were dissatisfied. The others didn't know or refused to answer.

Regionally, 67 per cent of Manitoba and Saskatchewan respondents were satisfied with their education system. Other breakdowns along the same lines were: the Atlantic provinces and Quebec, 62 per cent Alberta and Ontario, 55 and British Columbia, 52.

The vice-president of the British Columbia Teachers' Federation, Irene Lanzinger, says people don't believe our education system is properly funded.
