It often seems that the councilors represent the interests of developers more than they do the general population. What makes the councilors do this?
Therefore, a good poll question might be...
Should city councilors be audited by Revenue Canada and the RCMP from time to time to uncover kick backs from real estate developers?
This week, Council voted to change the Official Community Plan to allow the controversial McKinley Landing project to go ahead. During the McKinley Landing project debate, some pro-councilors spoke of the need to balance jobs and economic growth of the community. Council also used their discretion to overruled their own signage bylaw to allow a financial institution to have three frontage signs instead of the usual two.
On the other hand, audits come at a cost. Some may regard audits as overly intrusive and deter qualified individuals from seeking office. A cynic may suggest a wayward target of an audit could likely find another way to hide wrongdoing.
