It’s not quite official yet, but at 10:30 am press conference at the Grand tomorrow it will be – UBC is taking over the North Campus of UBC.
On one hand, there are benefits to UBC being a custodian of OUC. Students would be able to more easily transfer courses to UBC, and of course, the older University's degrees have greater recognition elsewhere.
On the other hand, can a Lower Mainland University do a good job of running a “branch plant” campus in the interior? Will Kelowna still get its fair share of resources and have the unique needs of this area met? OUC’s own satellite campuses, such as Vernon, may be a model for this arrangement.
