Hundreds of books, from romance novels to mysteries, self-help and much more, are on sale at the Penticton Curling Club this week.
The annual Rotary Book Sale, held by the Penticton Okanagan Rotary Club, will continue through April 28.
Money raised at the big event will primarily go toward a fetal monitor, worth $18,286, for Penticton Regional Hospital.
“It’s quite timely for us as the hospital has been front and center in the news,” said secretary Sue Harvey. “It’s the way Rotary gives back to the community and is recycling for people as well.”
The books sell by the pound. Soft covers cost $3 a pound and hard covers go for $2.
In addition to helping toward the cost of the fetal monitor, which checks heart rate during labour and delivery, funds raised go to other smaller Rotary projects including cleaning up the area around the KVR trail at Penticton Secondary School.
In conjunction with the book sale, people can drop off gently used shoes for the charity Soles4Souls.
The shoes are subsequently delivered to people in need around the world.
