United Way $50,000 into goal

United Way’s 2009 fall fundraising campaign is going strong and the total for the South Okanagan-Similkameen now stands at $50,738 – one-third of the year’s goal.

Most workplace campaigns are still in high gear with fun being the key for workplace “fun”draising. In addition to employee donations, the Southern Interior Tax Services Office held a number of staff events to raise money for United Way: a staff breakfast, pizza lunch, book sale, fun day, silent auction, gift basket raffle, jeans day … and the list goes on.

Staff from Penticton & District Community Resources Society wrapped up their workplace campaign on Halloween with a potluck lunch and live auction, all while wearing pajamas.

The Pacific Agri-Food Research Centre in Summerland has a coffee club that contributes funds to United Way year-round. Staff there also hosted a pizza lunch while raising awareness about what United Way does in our communities.

Colin Powell and his team at IGA in Penticton held another successful pumpkin sale and BBQ on October 24. GIANT FM was on location with local talent Nearly Alan (Jackson) on stage.

A Fashion Savoir Faire is coming on November 12 at the Barking Parrot with proceeds going to United Way Community Partner, Penticton & District Community Resources Society. A few tickets are still available from Luminus or Vintage & Vogue stores on the 300 block of Main Street.

Stay tuned to GIANT FM 100.7 on November 20 for the 7th annual United Way radio auction. Thousands of dollars of great merchandise and services will be on the block between 6 and 10 am.

Dollars raised help support 14 local health and social service agencies in the South Okanagan-Similkameen. United Way Community Partners deliver vital programs and services throughout the year to thousands of people who depend on their support.
