Highway 97 has been closed indefinitely in both directions two kilometers north of Summerland to nine kilometers north of Summerland.
Arthon Construction, the highway contractor doing construction on that stretch fears the possibility of a rock slide.
"A large amount of danger rock is ready to let loose but has not at this point. If it did it would pose a large threat to the public."
An Arthon Construction spokesperson says that the closure could just be through the night or longer into the weekend.
Tom Wilson, Managing Editor of the Okanagan Saturday and Okanagan Sunday, alerted media Friday night that the road closure will mean the paper will be delayed a few hours.
"The Okanagan Saturday will be delivered, but due to the road closure, it will not arrive at the usual time. We'll keep you posted about the Sunday paper."
We'll have more details on the road closure as they are made known.
Update: (8:55 a.m. Saturday) The Highway remains closed, but Arthon Construction officals say a geo-tec engineer is onsite looking at the situation. More information will be released as it becomes known.
