Penticton Band elects new chief

The Penticton Indian Band has a new chief.

Jonathon Kruger takes over the reigns from Grand Chief Stewart Phillip, who decided not to run for re-election.

Kruger received 134 votes, followed by Greg Gabriel with 83. Elaine Alec received 30 votes, Lavern Jack 13, Howard Gabriel 9, and Pierre Kruger received one vote, despite dropping out right before the election.

Chief Stewart Phillip says the Penticton Indian Band differs from other Bands, therefore Kruger will have to work closely with the community.

Phillip remains President of the Union Of B-C Indian Chiefs.
