New junior a capella choir at the Penticton Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts

Kids can sing for the joy of it

A new choir starting with the Penticton Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts is inviting kids at all levels to come to sing for the joy of it.

The new junior a capella choir that's about to start in Penticton is for children ages 8 to 14 and will be led by local musician Yanti Sharples.

"This isn't your typical youth choir. The Good Vibes Junior Singers is part of the Ubuntu Choir Network that believes the joy of singing is a universal birthright and that singing together in harmony helps us build community and celebrate diversity," Catherine Jones, executive director for the academy said.

"It's a safe non-judgmental space for all voices, even those who believe they can't carry a tune. The idea is that the fellow singers provide support as the more timid ones find their voice."

The new choir starts on Monday, Jan. 30 at 4 p.m. and runs for 16 weeks, until June 12.

Tuition costs $175 (plus registration fees)

More info about the choir can be found on the Academy website here.
