Oliver Fire Department tackling early morning structure fire at detached garage workshop

Battling structure fire

One person was sent to the hospital after a fire engulfed a large garage in Oliver early Thursday morning.

The Oliver Fire Department was dispatched to Island Way Road at approximately 6:45 a.m. to find a very large detached garage workshop with several vehicles inside fully engulfed in flames on arrival.

Two engines and two water tenders responded, along with a substantial crew of firefighters.

Fire Chief Bob Graham said that the one resident has been taken to the hospital by ambulance.

OFD is asking travellers to watch out for fire equipment and trucks in and around the area as they are still shuttling water to the scene and to stay away from the area.

Crews will be on scene for most of the morning into the afternoon in mop up and knocking down hotspots.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
