Search and Rescue crews find stuck UTV operator on South Okanagan forestry road

Stuck in the snow, rescued

A UTV operator who became stuck in the snow in the South Okanagan Friday night was rescued by search and rescue crews.

In a Facebook post, Penticton & District Search & Rescue says 15 volunteers were deployed to the Sheep Creek Forest Service Road, near the Kaleden area, at about 6:30 p.m. Friday evening.

“RCMP had received a call from the UTV operator in the Sheep Creek Forest Service Rd area that he was stuck and needed assistance,” said search manager Randy Brown.

“SAR personnel deployed ground teams who hiked into the area and located the stranded UTV. SAR manager Mark Pfeifer then deployed two snow machines which attended to complete the evacuation.”

The rescue took several hours, with volunteers completing the operation by about 1:30 a.m. Saturday.
