Summerland businesses team up to raise funds for Toys & Toonies for Tots & Teens

Charity chili sale at winery

It's that time of year to join together to help raise funds for those in need, and two Summerland businesses are stepping up. Back Door Winery and Granny's Cafe & Bakery have partnered to raise funds for Toys & Toonies for Tots & Teens, Summerland’s annual toy drive.

On Saturday, Nov. 25, from 5-7 p.m., Mike Boersma from Granny’s, will be at Back Door Winery serving chili and Mac & Cheese by donation.

The winery will be donating its tasting fee that day to Toys & Toonies for Tots & Teens. Granny’s will also be making gingerbread cookies to go with mulled wine.

All proceeds will be going to the 35th annual Toys & Toonies for Tots & Teens.

Back Door Winery owner Jesse Gill says they wanted to partner with a local business to do something meaningful in the community.

“Mike and Adrienne share the same commitment to the community as we do, so it was a no-brainer for us to work together,” Gill added. “We hope to see many people come out so we can make a generous donation to Toys & Toonies for Tots & Teens.”

Granny’s has serving up their homemade chili and mac & cheese as a fundraiser for either the Summerland Food Bank or Toys & Toonies for Tots & Teens since 2019.

They expect to make up to 40 litres of chili and will have a veggie option as well.

Granny's partnership won't be a one-time deal either, as their food program kicks off with the winery next spring

“Partnering with Back Door Winery is a win-win,” said Boersma. “Providing food service during the summer months will allow wine by the glass on their beautiful patio.”

Back Door Winery will also be open late next week on Thursday, Friday and Saturday 12-7 p.m. with case lot specials and will be serving mulled wine.
