Everything from games to goats for Penticton families this season

Games, to goats, for family

"Four seasons of fun" is an ongoing collaboration between Castanet and Visit Penticton showcasing what Penticton has to offer all year round. Watch for it every Monday morning.

From games to goats, family-friendly activities and experiences can help fill your calendar this season and create some unique memories as the holidays approach.

If you haven’t yet been to a Penticton Vees game this season, a friendly reminder: local kids and student under the age of 18 get in free (those under 13 must attend with an adult), courtesy of Peter’s Brothers Construction.

The team is having a winning season, and there’s some extra creative fun happening. Get the family together to design the Vees Holiday Warm Up Jersey. The winning design will be worn by the team throughout December.

And if you’ve got a Vees fan in the family, pick up some Vees clothing to wear for a visit with Santa at the S.S. Sicamous -- for its first event since 2019, the S.S. Sicamous will be open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Dec. 19 through Dec. 23.

Santa will be making an appearance on the heritage sternwheeler on Dec. 20 and 22.

“There will be lots to check out. We’ll have stations throughout the ship, and a fruit crate train,” says assistant manager Katie Pereira, “and bring your camera for Santa!”

The ship will be fully decked out for Christmas, hot beverages will be available by donation on all days, with baked goods on the two days Santa is on board.

While you’re planning for the holidays, think about getting your seasonal cards through the S.S. Sicamous Christmas Card Fundraiser.

To work off some of the extra holiday calories you might enjoy, plan a visit to the indoor climbing wall at Hoodoo Adventures. With 5,000 square feet, there’s plenty of space to explore, including the MoonBoard.

The wall is available for drop-ins, or book ahead to ensure a spot, and consider the family introduction course if you’re new to climbing or you need to refresh your skills.

For an outdoor educational adventure, book a visit to GottaGoat Farm and let owners Jeff and Cindy Campbell introduce your family to their adorable family of Nigerian Dwarf goats and other miniature goats.

“The goats love attention and pets,,” says Jeff, “dress like you’re going to Apex and come for a visit.”

You’ll get an hour with the goats for $10 per person, and a little education as well as you’ll hear stories, learn some goat facts, and maybe get to know some of the goats and their personalities.

“We get questions about buying goats from people who have dreams of owning and milking a goat,” explains Jeff, “And many questions about goat milk.”

While you can’t purchase goat milk at the farm, you can shop for unique gift ideas, handmade animal jewelry, and the 2023 GottaGoat Farm Calendar.

Follow the farm on Facebook for previews of everything you can do while visiting the goats.

“It’s a fun family activity,” says Jeff, with a reminder to book your visit in advance.
