Swimmers advisory at Cottonwood Beach in Osoyoos after high E. coli concentrations found

High E. coli at local beach

A poor water quality advisory was issued by the Town of Osoyoos on Tuesday afternoon for Cottonwood Beach.

Swimming is currently not recommended due to unsatisfactory bacteriological results from water samples taken at the beach.

The swimming advisory will remain in effect until such time that water samples return to satisfactory levels.

Unsatisfactory bacterial levels are when samples taken over a 30-day period contain an average of more than 200 E. coli bacteria/100 ml, and/or when a series of single sample results exceed 400 E. coli bacteria/100ml.

Satisfactory levels to swim return when the samples taken over a 30-day period contain an average of less than or equal to 200 E. coli bacteria/100ml.
