Man shot to death on Osoyoos Indian Band near Oliver

Deadly shooting near Oliver

The RCMP Southeast District Major Crime Unit has been called to assist Oliver RCMP after a man was shot to death at a property on Osoyoos Indian Band land.

Just before 4 a.m. on Sunday, officers from Oliver were called to reports of a shooting in the 1000-block of Pine Ridge Drive. Despite the life-saving efforts of an associate of the victim, the 61-year old man had died by the time officers and BC Emergency Health Services paramedics arrived.

Police Dog Services, the Southeast District Forensic Identification Section, and the Penticton South Okanagan Similkameen Regional District General Investigation Section are on scene gathering evidence. Officers are also canvassing the area for witnesses and video surveillance.

“It is far too early to make any concrete determinations but early indications are that this was not a random shooting; however, we will continue to let the evidence guide us as we continue to investigate,” said Inspector Brent Novakoski, Southeast District Senior Investigating Officer of BC RCMP Major Crime Services

Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to contact the SED MCU tip line at 1-877-987-8477.
