Oliver cannabis shop robbed at gunpoint, thieves take off in security guard's vehicle

Cannabis gunpoint robbery

Oliver RCMP responded to a report of a robbery at an unlicensed marijuana dispensary located on Hwy 97 on Wednesday morning, after the security guard was held at gunpoint while the store was looted.

Police got the call at around 2 a.m. for the shop near Tucelnuit Road, after two males had produced handguns in front of the security guard on site and placed him inside an unlocked washroom.

According to Sgt. Don Wrigglesworth, the suspects then proceeded to break into two sea cans that contained cannabis products for other store locations, as the Hwy 97 store is not open.

A number of plastic bins containing various cannabis items were taken.

The suspects took off in the security guard’s vehicle, also taking his wallet and cell phone.

Once they departed, the security guard was able to seek assistance from a nearby person sleeping in a transport truck. He was unharmed from the incident.

Police were able to locate his belongings, abandoned and undamaged on Highway 3 later in the morning.

The matter remains under investigation.
