En’owkin Centre unveils the Four Food Chiefs Feast Table in Penticton

Four Food Chiefs Feast Table

The En’owkin Centre, Culture, Arts and Higher Learning program unveiled the Four Food Chiefs Feast Table on Saturday in Penticton, to honour the history, along with Syilx thought, knowledge and cultural values.

A blessing feast and ceremony followed the unveiling, to acknowledge those who have contributed to the table that will serve the board, faculty, staff, students and guests far into the future.

Funding for the materials to construct the table was raised by the En’owkin Centre Men’s group: Lloyd Lecoy, Chad Eneas, Elliott Tonasket.

Design and construction of the table was led by Lloyd Lecoy and Casey Lecoy in the completion of the 15’long X 6’wide table.

En’owkin Culture, Arts & Higher Learning Program commissioned artist Cody Lecoy to design and paint the surface of the table.

The En’owkin centre’s mandate is to uphold the sacred responsibilities given by the Creator through culture and nsyilxcen language. En’owkin arts and culture program provides a culturally safe learning environment, hosting many traditional and contemporary art workshops, exhibitions for Syilx members and visitors residing within the Syilx territory.

The Four Chiefs Feast Table will be part of an outdoor space for discussions and enjoyment.
