Protest against RBC for climate actions planned in Oliver

RBC protest planned

Protesters are planning to gather this week outside Oliver's RBC branch as part of a day of action protesting the bank's continued investments in oil and gas development projects.

Organizers said the event is scheduled for 12 p.m. Thursday, April 7, at the bank at 6306 Main Street, citing support of projects like Coastal GasLink and the Trans Mountain pipelines.

"While RBC states in their Climate Change Position Disclosure that they “support the principles of the Paris Agreement and the international goal to hold global warming to below 2º Celsius”, they are actively contributing to increasing Greenhouse Gas emissions by investing in oil and gas projects globally," reads a statement from organizer Kerry Mewhort.

Participants are encouraged to bring signs and sidewalk chalk. Masks are optional.
