Oliver care home that saw 17 deaths in first wave experiencing second outbreak of COVID-19

The COVID-19 pandemic has hit McKinney Place long term care home in Oliver once again.

Interior Health added McKinney to its list of facilities experiencing coronavirus outbreaks Monday.

The facility was the site of one of the deadliest outbreaks in the Interior during the early days of the pandemic. In 2020, 17 residents died from the virus.

Fifty-four of 59 residents contracted the virus during that outbreak, along with 23 staff members.

Interior Health has not released details on the latest outbreak, as to how many residents or staff members are ill.

Elsewhere in the South Okanagan, Mariposa Gardens long term care home in Osoyoos and Westview Place and The Hamlets in Penticton are also dealing with active COVID-19 outbreaks.
