"Four seasons of fun" is a collaboration between Castanet and Travel Penticton showcasing what Penticton has to offer all year round. Watch for it every Monday morning.
From gift baskets to glassware, there are plenty of Okanagan-inspired gift-giving options this season that support local shops and suppliers.
If you’ve missed gathering favourite flavours to satisfy someone’s sweet tooth, one of the region’s purveyors of jams, sauces, and more has recently returned to the Cherry Lane Shopping Centre in Penticton with a well-stocked kiosk.
Summerland Sweets is ready for you, and general manager Len Filek says don’t delay stopping by this season.
“November was quite busy, and our kiosks in Penticton and Kelowna have been very well-received and appreciated,” he says. “We’re looking forward to a busy season, and we have a full complement of everything. Plus it makes you feel good to support local,” adds Len, who notes that Summerland Sweets is getting ready to celebrate its 60th anniversary next year.
More than 30 different gift packs are ready to go, and the majority of products are made right here in the Okanagan. On top of the curated gift packs, larger gift baskets are also available.
Gift baskets are proving popular at Penticton’s B.C. Wine Information Centre too.
“We have so many gift-giving options, our baskets are just one ,” says manager Donna Faigaux, “and whatever you choose, we’ll happily gift wrap it for you!”
Festive glassware would pair well with a large format – 1.5 litres or more – bottle of B.C. wine for the wine lover on your list, and with a bottle that large a decanter might be a good addition to place under the tree.
Donna also suggests giving the gift of a wine club membership.
The shop’s club options include monthly and quarterly deliveries and range from two bottles to a case. All of the details can conveniently be found online.
“It’s easy, and who wouldn’t love this club as a gift?” she adds.
Many local wineries and breweries have excellent options for stocking stuffers. Pick up a corkscrew or a set of branded glasses from your favourite winery while you’re picking up wine for holiday celebrations, and keep an eye out for gift baskets at wineries too.
You’ll find t-shirts, hats, mugs, and more at local breweries for the beer fan on your list. Explore Penticton’s Ale Trail for inspiration and ideas, especially as Penticton is one of craft beer capitals of Canada.
If you haven’t yet found what you’re looking for, Travel Penticton has made it easy to find swag celebrating the local scene.
How about a graphic tee featuring a beer growler or a wine glass? Or a t-shirt featuring the mythical and elusive Ogopogo? The Visitors Centre has hoodies and caps that are perfect for the colder weather; you can put together almost an entire Penticton-themed outfit.
Throw in a handful of souvenirs to fill up a gift bag or stuff a stocking: bumper stickers, magnets, postcards, stickers, or pins. Shop online or drop by the info centre to pick up some ‘merch’ and ask the staff or recommendations on places to visit for more local gift ideas.
