Town of Princeton updates boil water notice for several neighbourhoods as flood recovery continues

Boil water advisory ongoing

The Town of Princeton has updated its boil water notice list as it continues to recover from devastating floods in mid-November that damaged the local water system.

Properties on 1st, 2nd and 3rd Bench, in the Mine Subdivision and in Westridge must bring their tap water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before drinking it, or using it to cook, feed pets, make ice, wash food, make infant formula or other drinks, or for canning.

Water should also not be used for bathing individuals who need help, such as infants, toddlers and the elderly. They should be given a sponge bath instead to avoid them swallowing the water.

A more severe notice, "Do Not Consume," is in place for properties in:

  • Allison Flats (Corina, Allison, Angela, etc)
  • Tunnel Area (Similkameen, Auburn, Dollie, etc)
  • Downtown Core
  • East Princeton
  • Deerview
  • Pines, Lynnwood, Deblyn MHP
  • Industrial Park
  • Airport & Jacobson Rd

The notice means that there are harmful chemicals or other materials in the water that can make anyone who consumes it sick.

This water can be used for bathing or showering as long as it is not consumed, household cleaning, flushing toilets, washing vehicles and watering plants.

Clean drinking water is available for pickup at the Baptist Church Food Bank at 160 Old Hedley Road. Residents are advised they will need to bring their own containers to fill up.

Anyone unable to pick up water for themselves can call the food bank at 250-295-7752 to arrange for water to be delivered.
