Positive case number grow from COVID-19 outbreaks at two Penticton care homes

Cases grow at care homes

Two Penticton long-term care homes are seeing growing cases in COVID-19 numbers, as a result of ongoing outbreaks at the facilities.

Village by the Station currently has 33 cases.

Nineteen residents and 14 staff have tested positive, according to an update from Interior Health issued on Thursday.

Three deaths are connected to the outbreak.

Haven Hill Retirement Centre is also dealing with an outbreak, and currently has nine cases. Seven residents and two staff members have contracted the virus.

The facility has one death associated with it.

As of Tuesday, just under 2,000 workers at B.C. care homes and assisted living facilities are now on unpaid leave, as a result of the provincial mandate that requires care home staff to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
