It's Free Wills Month in the South Okanagan

Helping seniors plan ahead

It is Free Wills Month in the South Okanagan, and the South Okanagan Women in Need Society hopes seniors in the community will consider taking advantage of the program and supporting SOWINS as they do so.

Free Wills Month is an annual event offering members of the public aged 55 and over the opportunity to have their simple wills written or updated free of charge by using participating lawyers in selected locations.

SOWINS is one of the local charities that people using the program can choose to support, if they wish.

"We are so happy to be supported with Free Wills Month in the Okanagan. SOWINS has been helping women and families in our community for forty years and we will be here to help for forty more,” said Danielle Goulden, executive director of SOWINS.

“Leaving a gift in your will gives SOWINS the opportunity to continue supporting our community for years to come. You can truly make a difference in the lives of women and children by leaving a legacy.”

A 24-hour crisis line, emergency sheltering, counselling services for women, youth and children, mobile outreach and community-based victim services programs are a few of the services SOWINS offers to those in need from Summerland to Osoyoos and Princeton.

Anyone 55 years and older can get more information about free wills, and how to potentially support SOWINS, by connecting with a lawyer. Click here for more information.

Those who use the service are under no obligation to support any of the charities involved, including SOWINS.
