Penticton mayor calls special council meeting to discuss adding more RCMP officers as soon as possible

Call for more cops

The Mayor of Penticton has called a special meeting of council to discuss police staffing in the city.

On Thursday, July 29 at 1 p.m., council will discuss adding five more RCMP officers to Penticton as soon as possible.

Penticton has one of the highest caseloads per officer in the province.

The agenda package for the special meeting includes quarterly statistics for the city from the latter part of 2020 and first part of 2021, which can be found here.

Council previously approved adding two officers to the 2020-24 financial plan at a cost of $360,000 for the pair.

Increased policing and bylaw services has long been a focus for Mayor John Vassilaki.
