Garrison Lake fire forces evacuation orders near Eastgate

Evac orders near Eastgate

UPDATE 9:15 p.m.

The Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen has issued evacuation orders in the Eastgate area outside of Manning Park due to the Garrison Lakes wildfire.

The RDOS orders the evacuation of two large properties on Placer Mountain Forest Service Road on Saturday night.

Evacuation alerts remain in place for the community of Eastgate. An interactive map of the evacuation areas can be found here.

"This fire is being monitored with aerial resources and industry partners are working with heavy equipment to assist," said BCWS in a statement Saturday.


ORIGINAL 6:15 p.m.

The Garrison Lake wildfire that sparked on Friday sitting 33 kilometres southwest of Princeton and west of Eastgate now is at an estimated 450 hectares, according to BC Wildfire Service.

This fire is currently classified as out of control.

An evacuation alert is in effect, issued by the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen for 141 properties in the area on Friday. BCWS reported that no structures are immediately threatened.

The cause of this fire is undetermined at this time and the fire is being monitored with aerial resources and industry partners are working with heavy equipment to assist.
