Osoyoos Indian Band has downgraded an evacuation order to an evacuation alert for some properties

Some evac orders lifted

The Osoyoos Indian Band has downgraded an evacuation order to an evacuation alert for several properties.

The evacuation order was issued due to the Nk'Mip Creek wildfire.

The Nk'Mip Creek wildfire is burning six km north of Osoyoos and as of Friday was burning out of control at 6,800 hectares.

High temperatures and wind speeds have resulted in heightened wildfire activity and increased smoke Friday with significant fire spread to the north towards Camp McKinney Road Thursday.

Crews continued to work through the night to protect structures and critical infrastructure. Heavy equipment continues to be used to build fire guards. The terrain is steep and rocky in some areas which can limit the use of equipment.

The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen has issued an evacuation alert for Electoral Area A, C and areas in the Town of Oliver. The Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen has issued an Evacuation Order for Electoral Area A and C.

RDOS Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) has declared a State of Local Emergency.
