Raffle fundraiser for families who lost everything in Penticton apartment fire

Fundraiser for apartment fire

A local couple is trying to help the families affected by the Maple Street apartment fire in Penticton that tore through a number of units in late June during the heat wave.

While a GoFundMe has been started for one resident who had been devastated by the fire on June 30, Debbie and Ralph "Relvis" Ramsay are trying to help two other groups.

“They lost absolutely everything, no insurance at all,” Debbie explained. “I'm doing this fundraiser to help them get on their feet...I always do fundraisers. I'm always trying to help anybody.”

She added that both families have been close to theirs for a number of years.

The fundraiser runs on Wednesday starting at 10 a.m. at the Super Wash located at 1981 Main Street.

“We're going to have hot dogs by donation and raffle tickets by donation. I have tons of prizes and it's all by donation, and when I draw the ticket, the winner takes all,” Debbie added.

“There's numerous things, I have pots and pans. I have a $100 gift card to Super Wash. I have a $100 gift card to Buy Low in Keremeos. I have hand painted native art, wine glasses, hand painted coffee cups. That's all by Neka Rain. I have different coffees and teas. I have numerous things and it's winner takes all.”

Super Wash has also donated all the hot dogs.

The hot dog sales and the raffle sales are all sold by donation to whatever people can give, with all the proceeds going towards the two families.

“The reason I'm doing that is, you know, some people can afford $50 or $100. Some people can afford only a loonie or a toonie.”

Currently Debbie expects the fundraiser to run until 4 p.m., but she plans to run it longer if it's going well.

If people can't make it down and would still like to participate, they can send an email money transfer to [email protected] and Debbie will add a ticket in the draw, or they can reach Debbie at 250-462-8964 for more information.
