George Hanson, Cawston's Seven Stones Winery owner, has died

Prominent winemaker dies

Seven Stones Winery in Cawston has announced its beloved owner and winemaker George Hanson has died.

Prominent on the South Okanagan wine scene since the early 2000s, Hanson is survived by his wife Winona, his son Christopher and his stepsons Colin and Rowan.

Seven Stones was Hanson's lifelong dream, and the winery is well known for their full-bodied red wines, aged in French oak barrels in caves under seven feet of earth. The caves are unique in Canada and earned accolades as a world-class cellar.

The winery made the announcement Tuesday on Facebook that Hanson had passed suddenly on the evening of Sunday, Feb. 7, 2021.

Condolences and fond memories of Hanson began pouring in within seconds of the posting, recalling a man who will be deeply missed.

The winery is closed temporarily at this time.
