A landlord/tenant dispute resulted in a Penticton police officer being assaulted, RCMP say

Assault after tenant dispute

An RCMP officer was assaulted while investigating a dispute between tenants and a landlord in Penticton, according to police.

On Jan. 31, RCMP were called to a Winnipeg Street residence where a male and female had recently rented a basement suite.

The pair met the officer and accused the landlord of stealing money and locking them out of the suite.

RCMP Cst. James Grandy said that while the officer was investigating inside the home, the male tenant attempted to assault the landlord.

While the officer intervened, the female tenant jumped in and grabbed the officer, assaulting him.

Police say the man and woman were arrested safely and later released on an undertaking to appear in Penticton Provincial Court on April 28, 2021 facing charges of assaulting a peace officer and resisting arrest..
