One person was sent to the hospital after a fire engulfed their home and left them with severe burns on Thursday afternoon.
The Oliver Fire Department received a call with reports of a fire and explosion at a residence on Island Road just after 1 p.m.
Twenty-five fire crew members responded to the blaze at 7600 Island Road with four trucks, according to fire chief Bob Graham. He said the fire took a couple of hours to extinguish.
The injured individual was sent to the South Okanagan General Hospital in Oliver and was then airlifted to the Vancouver General Hospital’s burn unit.
Neighbours reported hearing an explosion before the fire, but the fire department has not yet determined the cause.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
